Parenting

I am a first time mother and these are all the crazy problems my dear son seems to be going through.

Teething

He was fortunate or unfortunate to have 8 teeth by 10 months old and now he is teething molar. Whilst he seems undisturbed by the teething process, it certainly affects his eating habits. He could go without milk and then crazy about milk and go without solids! The molar teething seems to go on forever. One day is gum seems swollen and the next few days it subside and then swells up again! I cant imagine going through that 30+ years back!

Eating

Are all 1 yrs old fussy eaters? He used to love his chinese porridge and then goes off it and refuses to even look at it and all he eats is biscuit. Then he goes back on porridge and refuses biscuit. One day he loves his yogurt and the next he treats it as though it's poison. Because of his crazy eating and drinking habit, I have 2 different type of formula for him so that he is not bored of his formula.

Regarding formula, is the 600ml a day adequate for their bones and teeth development? It doesnt seem a lot but then compared to their tiny body, I am sure it should be adequate?

Sleeping

Putting him to sleep during the day is a better workout than going to the gym. He still requires me to rock him so I put him in his stroller and rock him to sleep. even then, it takes up to 1/2 hour of rocking which is good workout for my biceps and triceps! Will they ever get out of the rocking process? Sleeping at night is much easier as long as I am cuddled up next to him. :) (at one stage, I had to put him in my front pack to get him to sleep!) My recommendation for a front pack if your sleeps in it is one without buckles. The chinese Ma Tai is the best. Baby bjorn is good too but burns a hole in your wallet! :)

Toilet Training

Any tips out there to toilet train a 1 yr old? Some might say he's too young but in Asia, babies are toilet train from 4 months old! At least I have taken the first step and put him in training pants (which is impossible to find in NZ!) and bought him a potty. He tells me after he has done his poo! NOT BEFORE! I tried putting him on his potty when I sensed a poo coming and that ended up in disaster! Yup, I ended up with poo all over my hand cause he tried to get up from his potty while the poo shoots out!

A tip for those little boys - put a ping pong ball in the toilet bowl and it seems to encourage them to pee all the time just to see the ball flipping!
